Agilent BioTek Lionheart FX and Lionheart LX Automated Microscopes

The Agilent BioTek Lionheart FX automated microscope is a compact system for a broad range of imaging workflows. It offers up to 60x air, and 60x and 100x oil immersion magnification, with fluorescence, brightfield, color brightfield, and phase contrast channels for maximum application reach. The new wide field of view (WFOV) camera provides fast automated imaging in microplates and slides, enabling researchers to get the answers they need quickly. The optional additional atmospheric control capabilities of the Lionheart FX, including environmental control cover, ability to maintain desired CO2/O2 concentrations, and humidity chamber, provides users with the ability to monitor live cells while performing endpoint or kinetic assays.

Agilent BioTek Lionheart Automated Microscopes are an easy-to-use compact benchtop platform for a broad range of application workflows, including fixed cell and live cell microplate-based assays, microscope slide and microfluidic device imaging. Lionheart offers fluorescence, brightfield, color brightfield, and phase contrast channels for maximum application reach.  

Lionheart has a small footprint and is easily installed on standard lab benches. No need for excess instrumentation, lab bench space, or a dark room.  

Lionheart uses highly efficient Semrock filters accommodating a wide range of fluorophores and high-quality Olympus objectives, which drive excellent image quality and performance.  

The wide field of view camera provides fast automated imaging in microplates and slides enabling researchers to get the answers they need quickly. For 384-well plates image an entire well at 4x. For 96-well plates image an entire well at 2.5x.  

Laser-based and image-based autofocus are essential to capture sharp in-focus images in automated microscopes. Image-based autofocus focuses on the plane of highest contrast in the sample. The patented laser autofocus uses a reference image from the first well to significantly speed up imaging time for the rest of the wells in the plate, improving reproducibility in kinetic imaging.  

The dual reagent injector module for Lionheart FX allows fast cellular reactions to be imaged. The dispense tips, well, and objective are aligned so the sample can be monitored immediately following reagent dispense.  

Successful live cell kinetic imaging relies on a consistent environment, including temperature, humidity, and CO2/O2 control. Lionheart FX provides the perfect environment to grow and analyze live cells over time. Powerful moviemaker software tools allow visualization of time-lapse experiments.  

Lionheart FX and Gen5 software are an all-in-one solution to automate the entire live cell imaging workflow from capturing to processing images, to analyzing data and publishing results. Lionheart FX and Lionheart LX now include fluorescence, brightfield, color brightfield, and phase contrast imaging modes.
