One of the problems when reading cell assays in microplates is that the cell population is often not homogeneous at the bottom of the wells and measuring only at the center of the well leads to inaccuracies. The area scanning read mode allows correcting for this artifact by providing an averaged result over the entire area of the well. This sample file demonstrates Gen5’s high definition (99 x 99 points) area scanning feature on one well of a 96 well microplate. This data allows seeing where the cell layer has been disturbed by the liquid handling process.
