AlphaScreen® Technology

AlphaScreen® - A High Throughput Screening Assay Technology

AlphaScreen, used mostly in high throughput screening, is a homogenous assay technology similar to TR-FRET, to some extent, which allows detection of molecular events such as binding. Coated "Donor" and "Acceptor" beads are the basis of the AlphaScreenŽ assay technology. AlphaScreen, a bead based assay, works through the interaction of the beads coming close to each other- resulting in a cascade of chemical reactions that act to produce a greatly amplified signal.

Traditionally an expensive process, BioTek has created unique, lower-cost options for AlphaScreen detection. The Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 offer high-performance results, without the use of a laser light source - reducing the cost of AlphaScreen detection while still providing results similar to more expensive systems.

If you are looking for a lower-cost solution for AlphaScreen detection, the Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 microplate readers may be exactly what you are looking for. The Synergy 2 is a five-mode microplate reader while the Synergy 4, with Hybrid Technology is the first in a new class of Hybrid Microplate Readers that combines the exquisite sensitivity of filter-based detection with the flexibility of monochromator-based detection, all in one compact unit.

Unique Lower-Cost Alternatives For AlphaScreen Detection

Because AlphaScreen detection has traditionally been performed with the help of a dedicated laser excitation source, AlphaScreen-compatible readers have been very expensive. Now, with Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 from BioTek, AlphaScreen detection has a lower-cost solution. Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 both offer AlphaScreen detection with performance proven similar to more expensive laser-based systems. In addition to AlphaScreen, the Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 readers have also been shown to perform extremely well with other major screening assay technologies.

AlphaScreen Detection and More

AlphaScreen technology is only one of the many screening assay technologies. In addition to AlphaScreen other popular homogeneous assay technologies include TR-FRET, FRET, Fluorescence Polarization and Luminescence. Like AlphaScreen, all of these technologies can be easily automated and miniaturized. Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 have both been shown, through partnerships and field tests, to perform extremely well not only for AlphaScreen, but also for all these detection technologies. It is this price / performance ratio coupled with their unique ability to deliver high-performance AlphaScreen results without using an expensive laser light source that sets the Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 apart.

For AlphaScreen and other popular homogeneous assay technologies, Synergy 2 and Synergy 4 offer the superior performance you expect, in a lower-cost solution.
